People have been talking about yoga a lot in recent years.  Pop stars and movie stars have embraced it – and in Australia more people practice yoga than play footy!  Yet yoga isn’t just another fad.  It’s an ancient Indian form of wisdom that is over 5 thousand years old.

Most people think of yoga as a form of exercise, but there is far more to yoga than this.  Of course yoga is a powerful tool for developing strength and health – but it will also promote stillness and equanimity for the mind. 

Yogini: Yoga for Women runs classes just for women, because we have specific needs in our yoga practise: 

  • We need yoga that helps rebalance our lives.   Daily we juggle work, family and home.  Yogini yoga helps women nurture ourselves, so that we have more to give.  After a Yogini class your stress will be down, and you’ll sleep better at night.
  • Our hormones flow and change and so do our yoga needs.  Sometimes we need strong and dynamic.  Sometimes we need gentle and restorative yoga.  In women-only classes we can feel confident about talking of our cycles, and practising the kind of yoga that enhances our lives.
  •  We need yoga that will tone our pelvic floors.


Yogini Yoga understands women.  Each class addresses some of the above.  Also, each term there are classes that consider specific issues, such as yoga for headaches and yoga for promoting regular menstruation.

Our small classes ensure that students have plenty of teacher-time, with yoga programs designed around the students’ health concerns.  In some yoga classes you are an anonymous person at the back of a crowded hall.  In Yogini classes, each student matters.

I believe yoga to be one of the most empowering things that a woman can do for herself.  Through yoga a woman can gain deep awareness of herself and her body; and use this understanding to take herself to higher levels of self-development and peace.
